Yesterday UDAAN Society had participated in the ‘Janhit Jagran’ City Pitch held at Aligarh College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh where workable innovative ideas were discussed in order to fund them through Jagran Innovation Centre and other incubation partners. The programme was part of City Pitch which is to be held in 30 different cities of the country.
Among others, UDAAN Society team led by President Gyanendra Mishra and intern Anila Khan discussed an idea of establishing Five units of woman led social enterprises for the manufacturing of low cost sanitary napkins through SHGs. UDAAN Society’s team emphasized that the manufacturing of proposed sanitary napkins is need of the hour as Only 12% of India’s 355 million menstruating women use sanitary napkins. Over 88% of women resort to shocking alternatives like non sanitized cloth, ashes and husk sand. Therefore, incidents of Reproductive Tract diseases is 70% more common among these women. The Jury consisting of Tough Hope Director Shubham Gautam and Director of Mindorks Amit Thakur selected the organization’s idea for next level of National Pitch and a cash prize of Rs. 3000/- was also given to the team for the presentation of idea.
